The Best Coffee Shops In Portland, Maine
Perhaps one of the biggest coffee roasters in Portland is Coffee by Design. They have 5 locations in Maine, including their roastery on Diamond St. They have a large variety of blends and single-origin coffee beans to choose from, some of which are certified organic.
Sales of their Rebel Blend coffee go towards a grant for local artists.
With two non-traditional locations in Portland, (one is a former gas station boasting a very highly rated bakery!) you can’t go wrong with Tandem. They roast a wide variety of beans, however, they are on the more expensive side.
Their bakery at their Congress St. locations makes a visit worth it.
Our favourite coffee in Maine! Speckled Ax is one of the only roasters in the country that wood-roasts their coffee, and we definitely have a soft spot for wood-fired coffee. We recommend their Ethiopia Worku (if it’s in season), which tastes exactly like wild Maine blueberries. They purchase their coffee beans far above fair-trade prices and strive for excellent quality always.
Their coffee shop is located on the popular Congress Street and is always bustling, but space is at a premium here.
Specialising in single-origin micro-lot coffee, Bard has their coffee shop in an ideal spot right in the centre of the Old Port neighbourhood, this is the perfect place to pause your sightseeing and stop and grab a cup of pour-over coffee or a delicious bowl of Kamasouptra soup while watching the city go by.
Go here for baristas that know what they are doing, and be sure to grab a donut from The Holy Donut which is right down the street!
These are just our favourites, but there are many other fantastic coffee shops in Portland, Maine to discover. Do you have a favourite spot for coffee in Maine? Let us know in the comments!
